Transmission update
Star of the South includes a transmission system to get electricity from the turbines to the grid.
This system includes a network of offshore cables and substations, as well as underground cables on land between Reeves Beach and a proposed VicGrid Terminal Station in Giffard. Find out more in our transmission fact sheet.
Learn how cables are installed underground in this new video – and check out more videos like this at the Star of the South website.
Gippsland New Energy Conference tickets on sale
Australia's largest regional energy event, the Gippsland New Energy Conference, is coming back to Traralgon in September - with more than 60 sessions and 100 speakers focused on Gippsland's energy future.
As the Community Sponsor, we’re excited to support a complimentary ticket program to ensure locals are part of the conversation. Numbers are limited - find out if you're eligible and apply here.
We’ll be at the conference on 9-10 September and the Gippy Youth Summit on Thursday 11 September.
We’ll also be at the Global Wind Energy Council APAC Wind Energy Summit on 16-18 September in Melbourne to share insights on the Australian offshore wind market.

Offshore Wind Days wrap up
This month we got out to Toora, Loch Sport, and Woodside to host Offshore Wind Days – where locals were invited to chat with us, other projects and government agencies about offshore wind and enjoy a BBQ.
A big thank you to everyone who braved the cold weather to come along. We enjoyed sharing project updates, answering questions and listening to feedback and ideas.
Some key topics of discussion included:
Next steps to get offshore wind started and project timelines
Career opportunities now and in the future
Transmission plans
Recreational fishing in offshore wind farms
The role of the local commercial ports in the offshore wind industry.
Couldn't make it? Get in touch.

Let’s get technical
As we work to finalise environmental assessments for Star of the South, we’re sharing information about the 25 technical studies underway to understand environmental, social, economic and planning aspects of the project.
This month it’s ‘marine mammals and turtles’ – the study of whales, seals, dolphins and turtles in and around the project area.
As part of this study, scientists completed:
Boat surveys
Aerial surveys
GPS tagging to map seal movements 24/7
Underwater monitoring to identify whale calls
Reviews of historical data
15 marine mammal species were identified during three years of surveys within 100 km of the project area.
We're using this data to plan project construction and operations in a way that keeps marine mammals safe.
We’ll share more on other topics in future updates. In the meantime, find out more here.
